WHAT IS ROTATOR CUFF ?
A rotator cuff injury is a common cause of shoulder pain among adults. The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint. It helps to keep the ball (head) of your upper-arm bone in your shoulder socket and it also play important roles in raising and rotating your arms.
The rotator cuff comprised of four muscles namely Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor and Subscapularis.
Supraspinatus holds arms in place and keeps the upper arms stable. It also helps to lift the arms.
Infraspinatus is the main muscle that lets you rotate and extend your shoulder.
Teres Minor is the smallest muscle among the four. Its main job is to assist with the rotation of the arm away from the body.
Subscapularis hold upper arm bones to the shoulder blades and helps to rotate the arm, hold it straight out and lower it.
Injuries to the rotator cuff muscles occur when tendons or muscles tissues of those muscles are irritated or damaged.
WHAT CAUSES ROTATOR CUFF INJURY ?
Rotator cuff is somehow related to wear and tear activities or repetitive activities that cause the muscles and tendons to overuse and work under strain condition for a long period. Athletic activities such as swimming, throwing, and racquet sports are culprits in rotator cuff injury.
Other than that, chronic and untreated shoulder joint malposition predispose rotator cuffs to injury. If left untreated, the shoulder will gradually become instable and prone to other injury as well as dislocation of the shoulder joints.

Other than that, you will feel numbness and weakness around the rotator cuff muscles when applying resistance force.
